CHERI GILES is a calligrapher, lettering artist, and instructor whose love of pen and ink began in a high school art class and has since grown into a full creative practice. After studying graphic design and spending several years in a commercial design studio, Cheri traded daily deadlines for what she calls "the slower work of the hand," and she has never looked back. She now runs a busy studio practice producing commissioned wedding stationery, event signage, and branding lettering for clients across the country.
Her teaching career spans more than a decade. Cheri has led weekend workshops at craft retreats, design schools, and community art centers, and her online courses have guided thousands of students through their first downstrokes. She is known for a patient, encouraging teaching style that breaks intimidating skills into small, manageable drills, and she regularly publishes free practice sheets and lettering tutorials for the enthusiast community.
Cheri lives in the Pacific Northwest with her family and a perpetually inky collection of nibs. When she is not at her writing desk, she can be found teaching the occasional in-person workshop, exploring new scripts, or addressing envelopes for customers who insist her handwriting is the best part of the invitations. She believes that anyone can learn calligraphy, and she considers every student who sends her a photo of their first completed piece to be proof.
