About this ebook

The Resume That Gets Interviews is a detailed, practical guide to How to Write a Resume That Gets Interviews for readers who want a clear path from understanding the topic to using it confidently in real situations. The book is designed as a structured learning companion rather than a shallow overview: it introduces the core ideas, explains why they matter, then develops them through realistic examples, guided practice, scenario-based explanations, and common mistakes to avoid. Readers are taken step by step from foundational concepts into everyday applications, with each chapter building on the previous one so the material feels progressive, usable, and easy to revisit. The main areas of focus include Why Your Resume Isn't Getting Calls, Clarify Your Target Before You Write a Word, The Anatomy of a Resume That Survives the 6-Second Scan, Mine Your Career for Accomplishments You Forgot You Had, Turn Duties into Results: The Action-Result-Metric Bullet Formula, Write a Professional Summary That Hooks Recruiters in One Sentence, Beat the Robot Gatekeeper: How Applicant Tracking Systems Actually Work, Mine Job Postings for the Exact Keywords Recruiters Search, The Resume Mistakes That Quietly Kill Your Chances, Before and After: Real Resume Transformations, giving the book a concrete learning arc that moves from orientation and confidence-building to applied communication, problem solving, and independent practice. The writing style is direct, supportive, and accessible, making the book suitable for self-study, classroom reinforcement, professional development, or personal improvement. It emphasizes practical understanding over abstract theory, so readers can immediately connect the lessons to conversations, decisions, habits, and challenges they are likely to face outside the page. By the end of the book, readers should have not only a stronger grasp of the subject, but also a collection of repeatable strategies, useful language patterns, mental models, and practical routines they can continue applying after they finish reading.

About the author

Suzanne Wilson is a certified professional resume writer and career coach who has spent nearly two decades helping professionals land interviews in competitive markets. Before founding her own career-services practice, she spent a decade inside corporate human resources and recruiting, where she reviewed more than forty thousand resumes — and learned firsthand why most of them fail within the first six seconds. That experience became the foundation of her coaching method, which combines the realities of how recruiters actually screen candidates with a straightforward system for proving value on a single page.

Her clients range from recent graduates and career changers to engineers, executives, and parents returning to the workforce. She has delivered resume and job-search workshops for universities, professional associations, and workforce-development programs, and her advice has been featured in career columns, podcasts, and industry publications. She holds a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in career counseling, along with the Certified Professional Resume Writer (CPRW) credential.

A firm believer that a strong resume opens doors but can't walk through them for you, Wilson keeps her coaching focused on the whole journey — from the first keyword match to the final interview handshake. She lives in the Pacific Northwest, where she volunteers with mentoring programs for early-career professionals when she isn't reviewing resumes. This is her first book.
