Pulse Ink Watch Face

A page out of a sketchbook on your wrist: one steep line cuts the dial into day and night, the day painted in watercolour and the night drawn in pen.

The hour stands in the day half and the minute in the night half, both in big condensed numerals turned to stand parallel to the line, so the time reads across the cut as one number broken by it. The digits are inked by hand: a pen contour that wobbles, loose sketch lines running past it, marker streaks in the fill, and a hatched shadow under the hour.

The day is a watercolour wash on cream paper, darker where the pigment pooled at its edges and grainy in the paper's texture, with pen hatching that thickens as it runs into the line. A margin of bare paper shows at the edge of the glass. The night is a grey ink wash under layers of cross-hatching that thin out towards the line, with stars picked out in white paint. There is no line drawn on the cut: it is simply where the watercolour stops and the hatching starts.

Along the line, the two halves face each other. Today's forecast high sits on the day side and the low on the night side. Lower down, today's steps sit on the day side and how far you are towards your step goal on the night side. Between them the seconds count up the line: one small mark a second on the day side for the first half of the minute, then on the night side for the second.

The empty corners carry the rest, each reading with its own icon. On the night side, top right: heart rate, current temperature and battery. On the day side, lower left: UV index, chance of rain and unread notifications. The weekday and date sit at the bottom.

Always-on is a separate frame on true black: the line as a dim stroke, the hour and minute as hollow inked outlines, and the date.

Weather readings come from your phone's weather and show "--" until it is available.

SETTINGS

Wash: Lime, Yellow, Orange or Ice. The colour of the watercolour over the day, with matching colours for the minute and the night icons.

Temperature units: Celsius, Fahrenheit, or follow the phone. Celsius by default.

Wrist: left or right. Left by default. The line leans so the time reads without turning your arm; on the right wrist the face is turned top to bottom so it leans the other way, with the hour still on the left and the minute on the right.

The hour is shown on a 12-hour clock.
